Presentation:
Project Managers should carefully watch about a dozen common problem areas when starting a new project or assessing the health of an existing project. In an effort to improve outcomes of large IT projects, and thus improve the effective use of state resources, the State of California, through the office of the State CIO, enhanced its oversight framework to examine and focus on twelve specific areas identified in a state-wide study that were shown to be contributing factors to project challenges and failure. The lessons taken from these experiences can be used to effectively manage and avoid these project pitfalls.
Presenter:
Andrew Wertin has over 30 years of experience leading people and project teams implementing and overseeing technology programs and projects in federal, state, and private sectors. He leads a highly skilled staff of project oversight and procurement managers and specialists who oversee the State of California IT project portfolio of high visibility, high complexity projects. His program and project management work is with large IT implementations, computer and communication system engineering, systems integration, and hardware and software development, which has led to an in-depth understanding of project management and system development challenges. Coupled with a strong knowledge of system development lifecycles and strategies, this experience has resulted in program and project success for multiple public and private sector organizations.
