Project Managers have worked on virtual teams for many years. Typically, these jobs were in the private sector. This past spring, government at all levels were required to switch to a virtual model, practically overnight! The recent pandemic has created an unprecedented opportunity for State Government leaders to reassess the way we think about government operations and services, and how they are performed.

This presentation will cover some of the Trials and Triumphs of Transitioning to Telework for State Government. Despite the dramatic changes in how and where the work is being performed, it is still the ultimate goal of State Government to provide programs and services to their constituents as efficiently as possible, and for the best possible return on investment. During this unprecedented time, we have met the moment by learning from the obstacles we faced in the transition to successfully optimize government operations!

Presenter:

As Chief Information Officer, David Duarte is responsible for the Information Technology Division’s strategic planning, policy development, goal setting, as well as, the development, operation, enhancement, and ongoing support of the Information Technology (IT) systems that support the operation and management of California State Treasurer’s Office and its boards, commissions, and financing authorities.

Mr. Duarte has more than 27 years of experience in government at all levels and disciplines in IT. He has held IT leadership positions in California at the State Controller’s Office, Legislative Data Center, Fi$Cal (State Accounting Service Department), and California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). He also has a PM Certificate from UCD Extension. David is best known for building strong partnerships between technology and business programs.

Some of Mr. Duarte’s past experience includes:

·         Deputy Project Manager and Deputy of project technology for the MyCalPERS pension modernization project.

·         CIO for the Fi$Cal project (Accounting, Cash Management, Budgeting, and Procurement) project

·         Project Director Technology for CalPERS actuarial modernization project

 

The PMI-SVC Government Forum provides information sharing opportunities on relevant project management topics for anyone involved with federal, state, or local government.
 
The Government Forum promotes project management as a means to reduce cost, improve timeliness, and improve the quality of government projects. The Government Forum does not require reservations, and the informal atmosphere encourages a two-way exchange during the presentation.
