Presentation Summary:  The California Department of Parks and Recreation had a multi-million-dollar project portfolio, but no formal project governance. That combination is less than ideal. This case study will tell the story of how the Department went from having no formal project governance to a governance model that was well defined and highly functional. This session will provide some insights on how you can do the same in your own organization.

Presenter Bio:  Calvin McGee entered State service about 20 years ago at the CA Department of Education (CDE). While working for the CDE, Calvin designed software, managed projects and participated in the approval of the department’s systems development projects. Calvin spent the next 6 years as the Information Technology manager for the State of CA Central Valley Water Board, and another 3 and a half years at the CA Department of Technology where, among other things, he managed the contract and program management staff for CALNET a multi-billion-dollar network and telecommunications contract. He spent the last five and half years as the Assistant CIO for CA Parks and Recreation. In May of this year, he became the IT Deputy Director of the State Treasurer’s Office. Calvin attended the Sacramento State School of Business where he earned a B.S. in Management Information Systems and an MBA. He is also certified as a PMP.
